This is one of my favorite Qigong meditations for healing. This video is Kris Deva North explaining the basic concepts of energy-flow in what the Taoist Classics describe as the 'Small Heavenly Cycle,' or 'Lesser Circulation.' This ancient practice was adapted for modern usage by Kris's teacher and co-author Grandmaster Mantak Chia as the 'Microcosmic Orbit.' For more details see "Overview".
![]() When I was in Chinese Medical School, I asked my teacher how it was discovered which acupuncture points did what in the human body. My instructor explained that Buddhist monks, who had trained themselves to sense their inner Qi (chi) and flow, followed the sensations in their body to help map what each of those acupoints did when stimulated. There are as many as 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body so this is rather remarkable. But also, what this story implies, is that a person CAN learn to sense their own subtle, invisible energies and flow in their bodies. When I have an acupuncture treatment, I often can feel a "dripping" in the back of my throat that starts when an acupuncture needle has been inserted in my body. I also at times, will "see" different colors moving behind my closed eyes as I rest on the acupuncture table during a treatment. These colors and their movement are also a representation of different subtle energies representing the different subtle frequencies. Sometimes during an acupuncture treatment, I may also mentally see images and scenes play out in my mind as if they are messages being made available from my energetic self to my physical mind. In addition, there have been times when I may feel emotions being released when these subtle energies move in my body, even tearing up occasionally by what feels like for no reason at all. Acupuncture can provide you with an opportunity to sense your inner subtle energy of Qi and its movement when you have a treatment. It can be a way to help you tune in and sense things you never even knew were there. This is a lovely 14-minute qigong exercise for the kidneys and their corresponding element of water by Mimi Kuo-Deemer: Yoga, Qigong and Mindfulness. In Chinese Medicine, Qigong exercises and their focus can change to reflect the season and its corresponding element in that season. Winter is the season when we focus on the element of water, which is associated with the yin organ of the kidneys. These exercises reflect this focus. ![]() When I give a remote medical Qigong treatment, I usually schedule the treatment at a time when the client will be asleep. I do this so he/she will be relaxed and be more "energetically open" to the treatment. During one of these remote Qigong treatments on a patient with intense grief, I was using a protocol called the "13 Ghost Points". While doing his treatment I felt impressed that his treatment would be better if I could simultaneously work on all these acupuncture points at the same time. I felt that the "invisible needle process" that is sometimes used in Qigong, would not be as effective than if I had 4 other people who could help with the treatment. I then had the impression I could energetically "divide myself up" and station myself at each of the locations where I needed an extra set of hands - one at his head, another at his right hand, another at his right foot, another at another at his left foot, and another at his left hand. With this one brief thought, of dividing to conquer this illness, I then instantly split into 5 parts of "me" and quickly positioned myself at each location. We all then worked simultaneously to work on changing his Qi to one that could ease his grief, and then moving his Qi to help him heal. At the conclusion of his treatment, I then just automatically seemed to all come back together back into one whole. The visual I had was like watching liquid mercury that had been divided, now suddenly all return back to center. The feedback I received from my client after his treatment was that he now felt SO MUCH BETTER. He remarked how it seemed something had been released and he was now back to normal. For me, I came away with an awareness that when you are "energy" you can do things that you can't do when you are "physical". In this remote treatment, I was "energy", and a result was able to divide myself up and become an "extra set of hands" that could be used for his treatment and improve his healing outcome. This healing method was based on an impression I received during his treatment, perhaps a message from his energetic self, so it was individual and effective for his treatment. ![]() When I first was introduced to Qigong, a lot of my fellow students noticed how easy it was for me to tune in and sense Qi and the results from my Qigong treatments were rather amazing. Soon I was able to 'see' nonphysical Spiritual Beings during these Qigong treatments, or get specific messages about what the client's body needed. Other times my client's energetic self would give me a message to relay to them about a recommendation or even a glimpse of their future self. People started to ask me why I could do this. At the time, I didn't know, but over time, I realized I was able to do this because I had been actively engage in cultivating my chakra energies prior to even learning about Qigong. Because of this, it was a natural outcome to be able to connect and use my spiritual energy in Qigong treatments to help me fine-tune my interaction with another person's nonphysical energies. The lessons given to me about cultivating chakra energies are now compiled in a book, Cultivating Spiritual Energy, This is a guide to help anyone who is interested in learning how to work with specific chakra energies so they can obtain certain results. Each chakra is a different type of spiritual energy, and as such, will give you different results and experiences when you learn to connect, sense, and use that energy. You can develop specific skills, such as communing with spiritual beings, or sensing subtle energies, or directing energy for healing purposes. You essentially use a certain chakra energy you have cultivated so you can use it for a specific purpose or result you need. . Qigong helps a person learn how to work with Qi. Learning how to work with your chakras can help a person develop specific abilities associated with a specific type of energy. ![]() Medical Qigong (pronounced chee-gung) is a treatment modality that is part of Chinese Medicine. The focus is to work with the subtle energies of the body - such as Qi (chee) to help someone get well or improve their health and wellness. Chinese Medicine believes that it is in this energy field where disease usually begins, and also where treatment really starts. A person can go to Chinese Medicine school to learn how to work in this energy field and treat diseases, which is what I did. In this process, I became trained and learned how to sense and connect with subtle energy (chee) and then learned how to direct it, move it, change it, or use it to help a patient in the healing journey. Each client has different subtle energy needs, so even though Qigong has certain treatment protocols, there is some flexibility allowed so you can make sure the treatment you are doing matches with what the patient needs. A Qigong treatment is like being in a meditative frame of mind so you can work in an invisible energy field to medically treat them. Qigong requires mental focus and attention in order to get into this "dimension", to stay in it, and work in it. Once you are "in that zone" you use mental visualization, including colors and sounds to help you use the right energy wave to treat an organ. What is amazing to me, is that different organs of the body are more sensitive and aligned with different colors and sounds, so in Chinese Medicine, they have a guide as to what colors you use to help you nourish different organs when you are in that energy field. Here are the colors that each organ system is more aligned with:
My First Ah Hah Moment in Using Color What really made this concept about using different colors in a treatment happened when I was doing one of my first Qigong treatments. I was working on a client's gallbladder and the protocol says to use the color green. However, a voice in my head said, "the color she needs is more teal" - which is still green, but with a bit of blue. I then mentally changed my mental focus to the teal color and I could immediately sense my client's gallbladder change and become more alive - almost as if I had just watered a wilted plant. This was the Qigong treatment experience that let me know how each patient may need a slightly modified energy wave pattern to specifically meet what their body needs. It also let me know one way to make those modifications (like slightly modifying the color) and I received validation it worked. I was trained in Qigong at Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, CA. During my Medical Qigong training, each class included methods to help us learn to sense and assess Qi, and then work with it to direct healing. With each class, something remarkable happened that pulled me deeper and deeper into learning more about Qigong. This event was one that made my mouth drop because it defied much of the medical logic I learned in nursing school.
Medical Qigong has protocols and procedures for different ailments and diseases - just like we have in Western Medicine. In this class, we were learning the Qigong methods used to treat emotional and/or psych disorders. There is a step-by-step process of what you do to treat these conditions. In this class we were learning how to treat stress and anxiety. I was practicing the recommended process on my classmate, Judy. She was laying on the massage table, eyes closed. I was at the head of the table. I pointed my fingers together and mentally focused my thoughts to visualize, or pretend, I was holding a needle between my pointer finger and thumb. I then gently placed my pointed fingers on my classmates neck to release the stress and anxiety in her. I then HEARD a hissing sound come out of her neck! It was as if air was being released from an over-inflated tire. I then experienced my left fingers starting to get cold - ice cold! My fingers on my left hand were now becoming numb because it was COLD AIR that was coming out of that pretend needle! I called my instructor over to ask about this and all she said was, "Good! Keep it up!" So I did, until the hissing sound stopped. At the end of the treatment, Judy said she never felt better! She didn't hear the hissing sound - she just felt GREAT as if she was now light as a feather. I was stunned. I knew there was no physical stress valve that I was holding, and I knew that physically, no air was hissing out of her neck, even though I heard it and felt it. The feedback and change in Judy was remarkable and spoke volumes to me about how effective this had been. There really was something with this Qigong! We were tapping in and accessing a person's Qi and directing it towards healing. This was amazing and had real results. We received news that one of our senior family friends, who was living at a nursing home and in hospice care, was getting ready to die. Because she is in another state, I decided to see if I could assist her with a remote Qigong treatment. I knew she would not want to extend her life, but thought I may be able to ease her suffering. I did a meditation and projected myself to Carolyn's bedside. When I arrived, I could "see" Carolyn standing outside her body, and just observing, watching, and waiting for her body to die. I greeted Carolyn and asked if she would like some assistance. She said yes.
I told her, all she needed to do was find the little core that looked like a little sliver of white "rice" in her chest or heart, and pull it out. She said, "is that all?" I said yes and told her she could do this anytime she felt she was ready, or could wait and allow it to move out on its own. She laughed and then pulled, and IMMEDIATELY the light in the room changed and we were IMMEDIATELY both standing in a different dimension. We had not "physically moved" but were now somewhere else. Carolyn's friend, Ruth, who had died the prior month, was standing there, too, and several others I didn't know! It was rather amazing. I had never experienced this type of sudden change before without having to "project" or "do" anything. I was in awe, to be honest. We were definitely no longer in Kansas but were now in a totally new realm and dimension. We then flickered back and forth between Kansas and this other "after life realm" just by Carolyn's desire to see what was taking place with her physical body, and then would flicker to the other realm to be back with Ruth and the other Spiritual Beings. I told Carolyn she could go back and forth with ease for a few days, but that ease in transition from one place to the other would change as her earthly essence would diminish in a few days. She was rather tickled and excited about this - as she does love learning about new things. What I learned from this experience was how IMMEDIATE and seamless the transition is from our physical dimension to the "post physical life" dimension. No movement was required. It was rather remarkable. ![]() There are different types of Qigong:
Medical Qigong focuses on these healing objectives:
There are some experienced certified Medical Qigong Therapists who have the ability to listen and interpret those subtle messages from within your energetic/ spiritual body. If your Medical Qigong Therapist can tap in and interpret those subtle messages, you can expect some rather unique and personal recommendations. Often, the information will provide you with some rather personal insights to help you on your journey. This medical Qigong treatment was unusual. It was for a woman in her 70's who suddenly found herself with rapid onset inflammatory arthritis in her hands and fingers. Her fingers were swollen to the point she was unable to bend her fingers at all, and they were very painful if she moved her fingers at all. She reported how it would now take her a full day to wrap one Christmas gift due to the excruciating pain. For her medical Qigong treatment, we took four Medical Qigong treatments over a period of 2 weeks.
First Treatment In the first Qigong Medical treatment, my primary focus was to reduce the swelling in her fingers with the hope this would also reduce the pain. I could "see" rancid looking energy in her fingers, and then visualized bringing in heat to help flush out the rancid looking stuff out of her hands. The joints then started to look more normal size, so then, I brought in some deep healing gold color energy from the earth to move to her joints and lubricate them. We then examined her hand and finger joints in more detail and were surprised to see they looked as if they had a very light, white dusty coating on the bone. Weird, I thought. I couldn't explain it, but just knew this was what was causing her pain. I then visualized flushing her bones in her hands with Qi to get that dusty stuff off. I then brought in some special Qi from deep in the earth to help with this healing process. I could "see" this subtle energy going into the cells in the bones of her hands and helping them heal. After I saw her hand joints look normal, I then focused on building up your organs to fight this "combatant". I also wanted to find the source of this problem and was surprised to find a little tiny be-be-looking pellet deep within your liver and I removed it. One of the Spiritual Being helpers who was with me, the one I call Microbiologist, was able to find another one of those be-be's in her liver that was still being formed. He was able to remove this one, too. We had the impression this little bebe-like pellet looking thing was the source of creating that rancid-looking dust on her fingers, which was then creating the pain and swelling in her hands. I then completed nourishing all her organs with Qi, and then ended the qigong treatment. Second Treatment Three days after her first Medical Qigong treatment on her hands, I did another Medical Qigong treatment on her fingers. In this treatment, I visualized beginning her treatment as if she was sitting in a deep warm water pond- a special place of healing. I then visualized directing this healing energy from the pond, into the ball of her foot - into her KI acupoint. I then directed this healing subtle energy to her kidneys, bladder, bones, and ligaments. Next, I visualized having her get out of the water and into the dry heat – in a place where she could be nourished by the sun energy. I used this time to balance the water and fire elements within her body, and to nourish her heart. I then fortified the rest of her yin organs, and just had her relax and rest. This concluded this Qigong treatment. After this treatment, the next day she reported she was now not having much real pain. She still had the stiffness, but it was improving. Third Treatment In this third treatment, which was 3 days after the last treatment, I repeated the same process I used in her first medical Qigong treatment, with the flushing of her kidneys and fingers with Qi to clean out that "dust" that was once again back on her finger bones. After this treatment, she reported the pain has reduced to what might now be called “discomfort” and she was now able to do more things with her fingers than she had been before. She said the progress was slow but steady —— in spite of rainy days! Fourth Treatment This treatment was done 4 days after the last treatment, and in this treatment, we really saw a difference. I began the treatment in her liver, and could sense a “glob of gunk” which seemed to be associated with those be-be-like pellets we found in her first treatment. It felt as if it was residual, and the word “toxins from those bebe’s or pellets" is what popped in my mind. I then energetically removed this "gunk" from her liver, and then directed a lot of robust healing Qi into her liver. I then did a microcosmic orbit to move all that extra QI and get it distributed to ALL of her body. Seven days later after this final treatment, she sent me this message about her fingers, "They are better! Not really sore but stiff. Thank you for all the therapy. You made the pain disappear!" |
