Emotions Can Affect the Flow of Qi in Our Bodies

12/10/2012

Emotions can have such a dramatic effect on the flow of Qi (chee) in our bodies. For example, if you are depressed or worried, this can stagnate the flow of Qi within your body. If the Qi gets blocked and stagnant, it can be a precursor of illness and disease.  When you continue to worry or are depressed, this will stagnate the qi, then the blood, and then is frequently accompanied by pain or tingling.  Eventually over time, worry and depression will affect your digestive system and you see a broader range of physical symptoms, such as:
  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • reduced appetite and weight loss or over-eating and weight gain
  • belching and reflux
  • abdominal distention
  • constipation or diarrhea
All of our major organs and systems are affected by the flow of Qi.  Each organ has a corresponding emotion and when there is an imbalance of this emotion, it can affect the organ's function.  For example, being sad and filled with grief can affect your lungs and if the grief is not dealt with, the emotion will stagnate the flow of Qi, and then the flow of blood.  This change of flow will result in pain, tingling, and problems in the lungs, such as coughing, shortness of breath, bronchitis, etc.

Here is a list of emotions and the organ which corresponds to that emotion.  The chart also lists physical symptoms which may develop if the emotion persists and does not get dealt with.

What You Can Do
When our emotions start to stagnate the flow of Qi, this can lead to pain, blood stagnation, and even more serious symptoms in the organ connected to that specific emotion.

Because no one wants to be in pain, and we want to feel as well as we can, it is important to know how to process and release those different types of emotions so they won’t contribute to disease or illness.  But sometimes we are unable to process our emotions.  We may not know how, or there are too many different emotions to process, or our body, mind, or spirit just can’t handle. But there are things we CAN do to try and help our health.  We can do Qigong exercises, breathing techniques, visualization, and meditations.  These are all tools and methods to keep our Qi moving and flowing like it needs.

But what if you find you are experiencing symptoms?  Or what if you are in pain?  I would suggest you supplement your Qigong exercises, breathing techniques, visualization, and/or meditations with a Qigong medical treatment.  Qigong medical treatments are VERY effective in getting Qi stagnation resolved, getting the Qi to move and flow, and can fill you up with vibrant Qi.  This process will reduce (or eliminate) pain and take care of many symptoms which may be affecting your feeling of wellness.

Conclusion
Different emotions correspond with different organ systems in our body.  If we don’t release and process these different emotions, they will affect the flow of Qi and blood in the body.  When Qi stagnates, it can contribute to disease.

Learning how to process and deal with emotions can help keep your Qi moving and flowing.  But if we are unable to process your emotions or are having symptoms, please engage in Qigong exercises, breathing techniques, meditations, and visualizations.  These tools can empower you to help maintain a sense of health and wellness.

But if we find you need help, or can't get relief from your pain, or are not seeing an improvement in your symptoms, medical Qigong treatments can be another option to help you on your road to recovery or help you maintain your health.
