My Medical Qigong Journey

I was originally trained in Western Medicine and practiced with the understanding of evidenced based medicine and only using concrete facts. I was immersed in technology, new gadgets, and expensive medicines. But then I stumbled into Chinese Medicine and Qigong. Since Qigong became a part of my life, I now see the value of being open to multiple types of healing methods outside of the one I had been trained and conditioned to use.

One of the greatest gifts I received from my Qigong instructor, Suzanne Friedman, was to accept and share the information and promptings coming to a person in a Qigong session. Here I was, a middle aged nurse, and I was being given permission to listen to my internal thoughts and impressions, and then act on them. I was astounded!

In our first Qigong lessons (which I wrote in a blog titled "Learning to Tune In and Sense Different Energies), I was shown there really is something to this notion of thoughts and energy.

In future Qigong lessons, we were being encouraged to SHARE our impressions with our client.  “What?? We’ll be considered whack jobs!” I thought.  But in this safe environment of learning and practicing Qigong, and under the tutelage of my instructor, I started to allow images and messages to come to my mind and I then would share them with my fellow students. This ability to share my impressions made a big impact on me and allowed me to become more open to not only receiving energetic input, but to trust them as well. This whole process of taking these small first steps of trust allowed me to eventually become a better practitioner.  Let me give you an example.

I have regular client who has chronic pain. I usually meditate prior to a treatment, as this helps me “get in the zone” and get prepared.  Since I have learned to be open to promptings and guidance through my training, I often ask for outside help so I can provide what the patient needs.

My client arrived, we chatted and I listened to an update on her health.  We were then ready to begin. I had her lay down, fully clothed, on the massage table. I placed some pillows under her knees and placed a blanket over her to keep her warm. I did a flat palm assessment to help determine what was needed for this Qigong treatment. I was now ready to begin the treatment. I could feel the presence of someone in the room, someone new, but was here to help with the treatment. I shared this with my client and she was open to the experience.

I was guided to first begin at my client’s feet, so I moved to her feet and was directed to use “scissor fingers” pointed at the balls of her feet (KI1) and pulled energy up from the earth and directed it in that location in her body. I was then prompted use the color purple in this focused energy, which I did. I then was prompted to change the color to orange, then green, then yellow, which I did while directing energy to the balls of her feet.

My client verbalized what she was feeling and what she saw in her mind with her closed eyes.  I did not share with her the color changes I was mentally making, but each time I made a change, she verbalized a change happening in what she was experiencing.

I then was directed to my client’s head and used scissor fingers into the top of her head (DU20). I used different colors based on the promptings I could hear in my mind.  My client reported what she was feeling during this change, too. I then was prompted to return to her feet and then held her ankles and gently pulled her legs back and forth in a rocking motion.  I stopped this motion when prompted, and then was guided back to her head and then gently held her head, pulling her head slightly back while directing energy into the ghost points.

We repeated this over and over and over again until this presence seemed satisfied the blockage was removed and her inner most core was flowing.
I then was guided to work where her pain was (upper arm and shoulder). We used energy balls and began by directing the energy first in the inner bone in her upper arm and shoulder. I could “see” (in my mind) the bone marrow observed the loving energy ball disperse inside the marrow.

We then used another healing energy ball, again filled with love, and placed outside the bone.  We then used healing energy balls and directed them layer, by layer, through the nerves, arteries, veins, fascia, muscles, fat, and skin. It was as if we were rebuilding and energizing her arm and shoulder's physical environment, layer by layer.

I then directed energy into certain acupoints in her body (SP6, ST36, GB60, LI10) and they seemed to weave and connect with the new layers we had just fortified in the source area of her pain.

I concluded with enveloping her in an energy ball of protection to help seal the energy around her.

I asked the Presence what to call him. In my mind, I heard “Yin Tang”, and then a comment, "yes, like the acupoint".  Hearing his name, I found my mind now forming a clearer image of this Presence, and then he was gone.

The reason why I’m sharing this Qigong healing experience with you, is because my journey with Qigong began with a total disbelief to where I am now.   Being guided to what and how to treat. Qigong has allowed me to
  • be open to receive promptings and impressions
  • trust those impressions – (it allows a person to receive even more impressions)
  • act on those impressions – (it will create more opportunities for promptings and guidance)
  • be open to changing the treatment plan - (what others may need is more important than what you think they need)
The journey of becoming a Qigong practitioner has happened one step at a time. The results has been an awareness there is more to disease and more to health than just what we usually see and feel.  There are layers upon layers of energy and we can use those to help get us well.

Your spiritual growth is amazing. You are so much more open and sensitive than when we first met many years ago; the change is dramatic. Some people never really grow into their potential, but you've done that and more. I'm so grateful to have been able to experience part of your journey.

Much love, Pam
